 1 Xatireyek, dastanek, șitek, e..
A memory, a story, something…
2 Dastanêk, kabrayek ebê nawî Șîr ʕelî ebê.
A story: There was a man called Shir Ali.
3 Zor betalpê ebê, îș û karî nabê, her xerîkî daniștin û serdanî em la-w ew la ewane ebê.
He was quite idle, had no work, he would just sit and visit this or that place.
4 Zor-îș qerzdar ebê, wułatî xoy be cê dêłê, derrwa.
He also had many debts, so he left his country and went away.
5 Le tawî qerzdarî-w emane. Degate memleketê, wułatêk. Tebʕen kes naynasê-w ewane.
Due to his debts and such things he arrived in a certain country. Naturally, nobody knew him.
6 Pașayî wułateke, ḥakimî wułateke xeber ezanê ke kesekî nenasraw hatûwete-w emane, ełê bîyênin bo lam.
The king of the country, the governor of the country heared that an unknown person arrived, he says “bring him to me.”
7 Ke eyben bo layî, ełê min nawim Șîr ʕelî ye-w emane.
When they took him to him, he says, “My name is Shir Ali” and so on.
8 Ełê, Șîr ʕelî to îșit çî ye? Bo hatûwîte êre?
He says, “Shir Ali, what is your job? What did you come here for?”
9 Ełê, erê weła qurban, min ḥeywanî weḥșî ehlî ekem, ramî ekem.
He says, “Your excellency, I tame wild animals.”
10 Ełê, ca wełła min çend sał e be șwên kesî wa degerim. Le to baștirim dez nakewê, bełam min șêrim heye, etwanî șêrekem bo ehlî bikey.
He says, “I have been searching for such a person for a few years. I won’t find anyone better than you, but I have a lion, can you tame my lion for me?”
11 Bes ke șêr e. Ełê, ca qurban zor asayî ye bełam, pêy deçêt, dexayênê, pênc șeș salî pê eçêt.
But when he says “lion,” he says, “Your excellency, that is fine, however, it will take some time, it will take about five or six years.”
12 Eyewê kat bikujê. Kake daemezrêt û małî pê eden û șwênî manewe-w hemû xizmetguzarîyekî pê eden.
He wants to gain time, he agrees on the time and they give him possessions and a place to stay and all kinds of benefits.
13 Dest eka be kareke be/ bełam xo karî ewe nîye, deroy kirdûwe.
He starts with the task, but it is not even his job, he lied.lied.
14 Duway maweyê refîqekanî le wiłatî xoyan ezanin ke Șîr ʕelî çûwete wiłatekî tir û kewtûwe be ser xoșîye-w teḥwîl kirawe-w małî heye-w pare-y pê edrê, dên serdanêkî biken.
Then, his friends in their country learn that Shir Ali has gone to another country and enjoyed privileges and was promoted, and that he is being given possessions and money, so they come to visit him.
15 Ew-îș sifreyan bo daexa, xizmetêkî baș, xwardinêkî baș, emane ełên; Șêr ʕelî cereyan çî ye?
And he prepares food for them, good service and a good meal, they say, “Shir Ali what is going on?”
16 Ełê, weła min droyêkî awam kirdûwe. Ełên, ca qurr be serit, xo serit be ba edey, diroy wat kirdûwe. To ehlî ew șite nîyt.
He says, “I have lied in this way.” They say, “Oh dear, they will cut your head off, you are a lier, you are not a man for such tasks!”
17 Ełê, be xwa bê eqł in. Bîxon naneke-w xemtan nebêt. Ta șeș sałî tir ya min mirdû-wim, ya șêreke etopê ya pașa mirdûwe. Pekim nakewê.
He says, “You are stupid, have the meal and stay the night. In six years’ time, either I will have died or the lion […] or the king […]”
 18 Tewaw bû.
That’s it.
 19 Zor spas.
Many thanks.
20 Le ladê, le ladêy kurdewarî, diłdarîy beynî kurr û kiç zor xoș e, ke taze dest pê eken, bełam ew/ ewey ke min ełêm, ewey sepke kon û klasîkekey.
In a village, in Kurdish villages, love affairs between boys and girls are very nice, when they just start, but what I will tell is the old traditions.
21 Kurr û keç yekem car, diyar e ewaney ke drawsey yek in, ʕașiqî yek ebin.
First, a boy and a girl, who are neighbours, fall in love.
22 Așiqbûneke sereta be hîn e, be hêma-w îșare ye.
Falling in love is initially through symbols and signs.
23 Lem ber ew berî ḥesar ew îșare lew deka, ew îșare lew deka.
On this and that side of the yard, this one signals to the other and that one signals to the first,
24 Pêy eçê, peywendî be kurr û kiçekewe heye ke çenê ehlî qisekirdin bin, çenê cesaretyan hebê.
It takes time, it depends on the boy and the girl, and on how talkative they are, how daring they are.
25 ʕêste yêkekîșyan behî bê, îșeke zûtir cê ekewê.
Now if one has a tendency to the job, the issue gets arranged more quickly.
26 Maʕmûlen kurr ew/ ew kare eka, ege kurreke cesaretî hebê zû be kiçey deka.
In general it’s the boy who does it, if the boy is courageous he does it quickly.
27 Dûhemîn șit ke day ebên ewe ye ke derfetê gîr bênin, kurreke maçêkî kiçe bike.
The second thing that they do is to find an opportunity so that the boy can kiss the girl.
28 Ezanî, ca ewe zor xoș e, be rrastî.
You know this is something really nice.
29 Derfet gîr dênin, ca em derfete ya her le mał e, le dewr û berî ḥesar, le piștî małeke ye, le șwênî ew dare ye qewtman le piștî małe ye, ya le mezra ye.
Finding the opportunity, well that opportunity is either just at home, a place by the tree behind the house, or in the fields.
30 Deçine mezra le bin darêk le șwênêk, le ser kanîyawêk, maçêk dekrê.
They go to the fields, under a tree or a place, by the fountain, they kiss.
31 We hemû șitekan le maça demênêtewe-w, çûn ełêyn, ełêyn diłdarî ladê diłdariyêkî xawên e.
And everything depends on kissing, because they say that peasants’ love is a clean love.
32 Duwayî ewe, dête merḥeley xwazbênî, baș e. Diyar e mercekan zor qurs nîn le ladê.
Then comes the time to ask for the girl’s hand from her family, it’s fine, apparently the conditions are not very difficult in village.
33 Giring ewe ye, ke kurr û kiç ḥez be yek biken û sîqeyek bibêt û emane-w, dête ser govend û zemawend.
The important thing is that the boy and the girl like each other and that their marriage is managed and so on, and than there is dancing.
34 Zemawendî ladê, min eweyim pê xoș e, ke to/ wekû șar nîye, goranî gotinekan/ her le dewrî ḥesar merasim egîrê.
Village weddings, I like it that they are not like in the city, there is singing around the garden and the ceremony.
35 Goranîbêj ya her gundeke ye ya gundî ew la tir dênin.
The singer is either directly from that village or he is brought over from another village.
36 Goranî ełê be amêrêkî zor xomalîyane, reșbełek heye lewê.
He sings with a very traditional instrument, there is mixed dancing.
37 Yasayek nîye le derewey gund bêt, wekû șar xełkeke cîya bikatewe le yêk, jin û piyaw dabirrê.
There is no rule that it should be outside the village, whereas in the city the people are separated, women and men are separated.
38 Be semîmiyekekî zor zorewe, be nizîkîyekî zor zorewe we, be pê ew șite sunnetî-w normałe ke bûwe șayîyeke be rêwe eçê.
With much sincerity, with a lot of closeness, and according to traditions, the wedding ceremony takes place.
39 Min ewendey ke bîrim bêt, çûbime ew șayîyane zor keyfim kirdûwe, zor be lamewe xoș bûwe. We le pał ewe xwardineke-j dîsan heman hînî heye.
As far as I remember, when I went to those weddings, had a good time, they were very pleasant for me. And the food is also the same.
40 Xwardineke wekû xwardinî șar nîye, tecemûlatî bê emane.
The food is not like the food in the city, that it is embellished or such things.
41 Ḥeywanêk, kawirrê, gîskê, gwêrekeyek ser ebirdirê, eygûrin, dayemałin, hendê le goștekey ebirjêndirê.
A cow, a sheep, a lamb, a goat, is slaughtered, they skin it, clean it, its meat is roasted.
42 Bełam, le hemûy xoștir ewe ye, ke to șew lew gunde emênîtewe, sî-w cigerî ḥeywaneket bo ebirjênin, ya hendêk goșt emênêtewe. We leweș xoștir yek șit heye, to eger pêwendîyekit le małe/ legeł małe zawa bê etwanî goșt bidizî.
But the nicest thing is that you stay in that village overnight, they cook the liver of the animal for you, or there is some meat remaining and there is one thing that’s even nicer, if you have relations with the family of the bride, you can steal meat.
43 Hendê le goșteke edizin, bașa, le cêgayekî dadenên, ca șew le șwênêk qerarê daênin, hendê le gencekan ko ebinewe-w, goșteke ebirjênin, eyxon.
They steal some of the meat, good, they put it somewhere, so at night they decide that some of the young men get together at a certain place, they roast the meat and eat it.
44 Giring nîye, șewe-w ewe naguncê-w emane. Xoș e le dewrî yek ko ebinewe, dastanî diłdarî yêk eken û emane …
It is not important that it is night and that you are in the village, they gather around, tell love stories and on and on …
